Free Geek is a not for profit community organisation that recycles old computer parts and equipment and supplies them to under-privileged people, schools, and non-profit organisations in exchange for community service. They install Linux on all the machines they distribute.
Sadly, the Free Geek organization was recently the victim of burglary. The value of the stolen hardware has been estimated to be worth approximately $4,500. Numerous people and non-profit organisations are feeling the effects of this, most importantly the local school system. Read the full statement concerning the burglary.
The community around Free Geek are rallying their support to help the organisation with its loss, and the Fridge editors hope that many in the Ubuntu community will also lend a hand.

For Fridge readers living in the Portland/Oregon area, please keep an eye out for laptops being sold with Linux pre-installed. The stolen laptops will be branded with a white Free Geek inventory sticker. Any information or leads can be reported at (503)232-9350.
